Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons Review

About this Review: This review is my honest opinion of the clubs, which I purchased with my own money in May of 2023.

If you’re on the hunt for a new set of irons, the Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons might have caught your eye. I recently got my hands on these clubs in May 2023, and after putting them through their paces, I’m ready to share my honest thoughts. In this Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons review, I’ll delve into the details of what makes these clubs stand out, how they perform, and whether they might be the right fit for your game.

My Take

The Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons are a fantastic option for mid-handicap golfers looking to streamline their iron setup. By standardizing the length of all irons to that of a 7 iron, these clubs eliminate the need to adjust your swing between different irons. This consistency has significantly improved my long iron game, making it easier to maintain a reliable swing. Although the single-length design may affect ball flight, particularly with long irons, the overall forgiveness, distance, and feel offered by the LTDx are impressive. If you struggle with best golf iron consistency, these clubs are worth considering.

Why I Chose This Club

The ONE Length design means all the irons are the same length as a 7 iron, which is one of my most used clubs. This uniformity aims to enhance my confidence and consistency. Given that Cobra is the only brand offering ONE Length irons, I opted for the LTDx to test whether this concept could improve my long iron performance.

Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons Looks

How It Performs

Distance: 5/5

The Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons excel in distance. Each iron in this set is engineered to deliver impressive yardage, making them ideal for golfers who want to maximize their range. The consistent length across all irons helps maintain a uniform swing plane, contributing to more predictable distances.

Feel: 5/5

One of the standout features of these irons is their exceptional feel. The feedback from each shot is incredibly responsive, allowing you to gauge the quality of your strike easily. The combination of the club’s design and the KBS Tour $-Taper 120 shafts creates a solid yet comfortable sensation upon impact.

Forgiveness: 5/5

Forgiveness is another area where the Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons shine. The oversized clubhead and strategic weighting help mitigate off-center hits, reducing the impact of mishits. This means that even if you don’t hit the sweet spot every time, you’re still likely to achieve a decent result.

Sound: 5/5

The sound produced by these irons is pleasant and solid. Each strike delivers a satisfying, crisp noise that reinforces the feeling of a well-hit shot. This acoustic feedback can be quite reassuring, especially for golfers who rely on sound cues to assess their performance.

Launch: 4/5

While the Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons offer a solid launch angle, they aren’t quite as high-flying as some other models on the market. The consistent length design provides a reliable trajectory, but it may not offer the same high launch as irons with variable lengths. Nevertheless, the launch is effective and well-suited for most golfers.

Workability: 3/5

Workability is where these irons face some limitations. The ONE Length design, while excellent for consistency, does limit the ability to shape shots. If you’re someone who enjoys working the ball and executing draws or fades, you might find these irons less versatile compared to traditional sets.

What I Love About It

  • Distance: The PWR-COR system features a steel core bar that enhances clubhead speed and rebound effect. This design boosts ball distance by efficiently transferring energy at impact.
  • Forgiveness: The PWRSHELL face cup, with its 23% larger diameter at impact, increases forgiveness on off-center shots, making each strike feel like a center hit.
  • Feel: The combination of the PWR-COR and PWRSHELL technologies provides exceptional feel at impact. The larger forgiveness area ensures that each shot feels solid and the distance reflects that.
  • Sound: The LTDx delivers a sharp, crisp sound upon impact, enhancing the satisfaction of a well-struck shot.
  • Shaft Feel: The KBS Tour $-Taper 120 shaft complements my swing speed well, providing consistent ball flight and feel.
  • Shaft Performance: Designed for mid-trajectory and low spin, the $-Taper shaft performs consistently across all irons.
  • Grip Feel: I opted for midsize grips (Golf Pride Tour Velvet Midsize) to maintain light hand pressure on the club, promoting consistency in my swing.

Issues I’ve Encountered

  • Workability: While the LTDx irons excel in forgiveness and distance, their workability is somewhat limited compared to cavity back irons due to the enlarged face area.
  • Adjustability: The irons are all 37.25 inches in length with no adjustability for lie angle or offset changes.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: The 4-6 irons appear bulky at address with increased toe offset, which may take some visual adjustment.
  • Launch Angle: The long irons tend to produce a lower launch due to the single length design, whereas the shorter irons offer a higher launch that aids in accuracy.

Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons Issues

Best Shot with This Club

On the 17th hole at Larkin Golf Club, facing a 220-yard approach on a par 5, I used the 4 iron, which is the same length as a 7 iron. Despite my usual 4 iron distance of 205-210 yards, I executed a perfect low draw that rolled up to the green, leaving me 25 feet from the hole for an eagle putt.

Value for the Money vs. Other Options

Priced at $899.99, the LTDx ONE Length Irons offer great value compared to other major brands like Taylormade P790, Callaway Apex, and Titleist T200, which cost over $1,100. The LTDx provides exceptional forgiveness and distance at a more affordable price, making it a strong contender for those interested in single-length irons.

Final Verdict

The Cobra LTDx ONE Length Irons have enhanced my consistency, especially with long irons, thanks to their uniform length. While the single-length design has impacted my ball flight, particularly with the long irons, the overall performance in terms of forgiveness and distance is impressive. If you’re seeking consistency in your iron game, the LTDx is a great option to consider.
