Best Golf Shoes

Best Golf Shoes (2025 Updated Buying Guide)

Golf shoes are probably one of the least important things, and it’s easy to forget how important they are to playing our best golf. Consider that we only use our feet as our ground of contact as we swing. So it is imperative that we pick up the right pair of best golf shoes that make us feel at ease, give stability and grip, and add to our looks while we sweat it out at the golf course.

Since there are so many commercial brands available in the market, it is very hard to identify an individual model. For example, do you want a spiked or spikeless pair or a sneaker style that will take you on and off the golf course? In addition to grip, you want comfort, but if a shoe is comfortable, then it comes with some loss of its waterproof protection, so consider all of this before investing your hard-earned cash.

Also, a brief reminder for those who are not epic: spiked shoes with spikes or cleats on the shoe’s bottom aid grip and stability, while spikeless shoes do not. This means they will not provide as much traction but instead feature an outsole that sits closer to the ground. This course also covers better off-course versatility for the same type of shoe. Both school shoes then try to deliver comfort, waterproofing, looks , etc.

In this article, we have scoured the best golf shoes currently available, including those tested by the Golf Irons Review team from Puma, Adidas, Nike, and FootJoy. Breaking this up into spiked vs. spikeless, there is a model for you.

Reviews Of Our Best Golf Shoes 2025 & Best Mens Golf Shoes

1. Under Armour Drive Pro SL Golf Shoe: Best spikeless

The Experience Full Performance – A golf shoe that performs

Under Armour Drive Pro SL Golf Shoe

With assistance from World-Renowned Biomechanist JJ Rivet and high-profile Tour player Jordan Spieth, the all-new Drive Pro SL has been substantially redesigned. We had to wait two years for the update to this model, but based on our tests, we’d say it was well worth the wait!

On the technology front, some fairly sizeable changes have taken place. The most significant change in the tech department is an entirely new Swing Support System that covers everything from traction and the HOVR midsole to a new lacing system. A new hybrid outsole offers a firmer feel, while a redesigned nub system also features a variety of different-height nubs for improved grip and ground penetration.

It didn’t take much time to test to see these are some of the best spikeless shoes on the market. At just 12oz, they were one of the lighter offerings out there, and the new grip was more than sufficient for a spikeless shoe. Overall, we have to say the performance was blemishless as the new Swing Support System ensured that our foot remained exposed while offering support in the best possible areas. I need to point out that the upper materials used didn’t feel as premium as some competitors available, but then again, for the performance, this is a small price to pay.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 6-14
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • BOA Option: No
  • Colors : 3 (Black/Titan Grey, White/Metallic Gun Metal, Mod Gray/Capri)

Pros

  • Over-the-top levels of support and comfort
  • Lightweight but sturdy build
  • Exemplary grip from the outsole

Cons

  • Upper materials lack the premium feel of rivals

2. Adidas Tour360 24 Golf Shoe: Best spiked

A great design that is stable and looks good

Adidas Tour360 24 Golf Shoe

It’s hard to believe, but we’re approaching two decades of Adidas’ flagship performance golf shoe. The latest iteration boasts a thorough facelift, inside and out, as the newest tech arrives in the already familiar, well-loved shape.

It’s a step from the old way of having molded spikes, which was the only option. The Tour360 consistently ranks among the best-spiked golf shoes in its category , and the latest release is perhaps the best yet.

The most significant addition to the black-and-white offering is a brand new ‘T-Shape’ suede microfiber heel, which utilizes a three-piece construction, including a soft, anti-abrasive sandwiched fabric that stretches from inside the heel to the top of the collar. Our tests indicate this provides a smoother feel than the previous shoe and better comfort and durability. The insole has also received some reshaping, and we could immediately notice more arch and heel support, which contributes to comfort and performance.

Lastly, the quality is amazing. The leather is soft, but you will have to take care of it to keep it in its best condition.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 6.5-12
  • Waterproof: 100%
  • BOA Option: Yes
  • Colors: 4 (Black, White/Navy, All White, White/Blue/Orange)

Pros

  • Soft, premium leather upper
  • “Excellent grip across the board (other conditions)
  • Better arch and heel support than ever
  • Spikes should be easily replaceable, giving a longer lifespan

Cons

  • Leather upper requires gentle handling

3. Adidas Codechaos 25 Golf Shoe: Best outsole

An all-around golf shoe that performs (and looks) good all year long

Adidas Codechaos 25 Golf Shoe

Mopping up the best outsole trophy, the Codechaos 25 features a redesigned structure, with the lugs positioned across a larger area than the last version of the shoe. We could certainly feel it is working in testing, and we would comfortably consider it one of only a handful of spikeless shoes suitable for wearing ‘all year round.’

Regarding looks, we are pleased to report that the fun , out-there colors we’ve expected on previous Codechaos remain, with neon green and pink highlights on the outsole to give a splash of flare pizzazz!

On the performance side, the shoes are fully waterproof and very easy to clean. In addition to the protection, however, it has to be noted that the sensation underfoot provided by the insole and, to an extent, the midsole is considerably firmer than the vast majority of other spikeless shoes on the market. Overall, it’s still a fantastically comfortable piece of kit that worked well across the board.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 6.5-14.5
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • BOA Option: Yes
  • Colorways: 2 (Cloud White/Core Black/Lucid Lemon, Core Black/Cloud White/Lucid Lemon)

Pros

  • Superb outsole grip
  • Light and comfortable throughout the foot
  • You have an incredible feeling of plant in the swing

Cons

  • More solid underfoot than some rivals

4. FootJoy Quantum Golf Shoe: Most comfortable

A win in very much not in ‘cloud-like comfort’

FootJoy Quantum Golf Shoe

First off, the general comfort of the Quantum is fantastic and truly lives up to FootJoy’s tagline of ‘Cloud Like Comfort.’ How, you may ask? It mostly comes from the Ortholite Impression FitBed, which means a step-in comfort, and with time, molded to the shape of your foot for what  becomes a ‘customized’ fit.

In addition to the FitBed, FootJoy loaded the shoe with ample cushioning under the foot and SofFoam technology at the heel and around the collar. In testing, it delivered an almost dangerously cushioned experience, and you could feel it doing its thing as we strode over the land and through the golf swing.

The stability is somewhat compromised with the focus on comfort, but the Quantum is undoubtedly a top performer thanks to its beautiful cushioning. From a visual standpoint, the Quantum falls somewhere between a traditional athletic golf shoe and a sneaker style, and as such, I feel it is a little bit of both. Many will take a fondness for the styling.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 6-14
  • Waterproof: 100%
  • BOA Option: No
  • Colors: 4 (White/Blue/Pink, Grey/White/Blue, Navy/White/Lime, White/Grey)

Pros

  • Top-class comfort underfoot
  • The leather midsole gives increased cushioning and shock absorption
  • The outsole has versatile wear for on and off the course

Cons

  • From a style perspective, this is neither here nor there

5. G/FORE Gallivan2r Golf Shoes: Best looking

The best-looking golf shoes we have ever tested

G/FORE Gallivan2r Golf Shoes

Right off the bat, the Gallivan2r is undoubtedly one of the best-looking golf shoes we’ve seen in the last 10 years! The classic G/FORE Gallivanter design’s awesomeness melded with the sportiness of the G/FORE MG4+, quickly spawning an instant classic.

However, there is plenty more to love about this shoe other than its gorgeous looks. Plenty of cushioning is provided through a dimpled insole and the support of a 3D molded heel cup, which helps to hold our foot in place during swings on the course . The cushioning around the heel area showed no signs of rubbing, which is always a concern because blisters are a guaranteed way of ruining a round of golf.

However, where we believe this model distinguishes itself is with the outsole. It has an embedded rubber cleat system with 13 on each shoe, all at the same height. We would say that they did offer a good level of grip, but they are far from the grippiest tires out there. Lastly, the brand took a break from the full-grain leather we’re used to seeing on some of the best G/Fore golf shoes, with TPU upper materials instead; therefore, the Gallivan2r is fully waterproof.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 7-15
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • BOA Option: No
  • Colors: 5 (Snow/Twilight, Snow/Baja Camo, Twilight, Snow/Onyx and Snow/Nimbus)

Pros

  • Just look at them
  • Executes the foot rubbing in the sole; can’t fatigue of this
  • Water-resistant, breathable , and anti-microbial

Cons

  • The performance of the integrated rubber cleat system is not quite on par with that of the competition.

6. Adidas S2G SL Golf Shoe: Best value

Great looks, versatility, and good value for the money

Adidas S2G SL Golf Shoe

The new S2G SL has styled off a running shoe, but instead, it is a sneaker-style golf shoe offering golfers a great-looking shoe that they can also wear out of the course.

So, as we slapped these with the best value strapline, we need to have a word about the cost. The RRP for the S2G GL is around $100 most of the time, which immediately places them within the best budget golf shoes, particularly one from a trusted output like Adidas. Now, naturally, there are cheaper products around, but when you take a look at the total package (not to mention the ability to rock them off-course), this is a hard one to beat in terms of value.

The second point is that we finally have Lightstrike technology in the midsole here, which we usually have in Adidas’ spiked models. In terms of comfort, this was a much wider fit than any other Adidas golf shoes we have tested, so it fits true to size and will suit wide footers well. It should be noted that there are more breathable models in this guide.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 6.5-14.5
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • BOA Option: Yes (Available on: Wide Model)
  • Colors: 3 (White/Charcoal, White/Green, White/Navy)

Pros

  • Superb value for money
  • Great on/off course versatility
  • Lightweight but quality build

Cons

  • Not as breathable as some

7. Nike Air Jordan Low 1 G Golf Shoe: Best sneaker

A casual golf shoe that has to be in the locker for any sneakerhead

Nike Air Jordan Low 1 G Golf Shoe

Regarding the best Nike golf shoes, golfers are spoilt for choice. The collection will only continue to grow, with stylish model after stylish model available for purchase. There are plenty of options from the swoosh when it comes to this guide, but we’ve decided on the Air Jordan Low 1 G golf shoe, as we think this offers a sneaker-esque style that so many golfers will love.

The Low 1 G is a stitch-for-stitch reconstruction of the standard Air Jordan 1 shoe, so in terms of comfort, it offers the whole leather experience and an encapsulated air unit in the heel. Our tester had worn these shoes solidly for a month, saying, “I never finished 18 holes with aching feet or legs.”

A few modifications are obviously required for a shoe to function on the golf course (for instance, different spikes, upping the waterproofing), and Nike’s engineers have added a forefoot pivot circle to the outsole of this shoe for even more traction on one of the most important regions of the foot during the golf swing. Though it did well in the wet, we would recommend others to it at this stage.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 7-15
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • BOA Option: No
  • VAU Colors: 4 (Blue/Red/White, White, Black, Silver)

Pros

  • Stand-out looks
  • Great comfort, especially in the heel
  • On/off course wearability

Cons

  • Somewhat less support through the swing than in most spikeless shoes

8. Ecco Street 720 Golf Shoe: Best off course

A comfortable shoe that is also versatile

Ecco Street 720 Golf Shoe

Ecco Street 720s, A favorite of the fellows, was on everyone’s list: the versatile golf shoe is seen to be worn from the course and all day and night long, ‘designed to be worn all day and night, it offers big city vibes with a birdie mentality.

Aesthetically, by modern design, it goes with more or less everything. We believe Ecco got it right, removing almost all the branding and keeping it low-key. That’s not to say they’re boring-looking shoes; some neat design touches give a modern and versatile silhouette.

From a performance perspective, we wouldn’t recommend wearing this in winter, as our Street 720s were easily marked and hard to clean. But with loads of cushioning and a Gore-Tex construction, it’s super breathable and fully waterproof.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 6-12.5
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • BOA Option: No
  • Colors: 4 (Grey, Green/White, White, Black)

Pros

  • Super versatility
  • Fully waterproof and breathable
  • Shoes with great cushioning under the foot

Cons

  • They are easy to mark and also more challenging to clean

9. Under Armour Drive Pro Golf Shoe: Best support

Excellent support comes from a well-designed new traction system

Under Armour Drive Pro Golf Shoe

Like the SL version of the Drive Pro, this shoe has the Swing Support System or S3. The difference is straightforward – SL is spikeless, while this version adds nine spikes on the sole for a phenomenal grip.

The spike heels come in two designs. Nine in total, five of which are the new Soft Spike Tour Flex Pro and four of the S3. As previously noted, these shoes were created by legendary bio-mechanist JJ Rivet, and the spikes are essential to what he set out to accomplish. Rivet needed them turned exactly 10° clockwise to reach the precise angle of slip he wished to resist. Our testing experience does seem to validate that Rivet is on to something, as they worked flawlessly. Plenty of foot support was in the key areas; we planted our feet on the ground while making this swing.

Another new addition we liked was the lacing system and its light weight (it weighs only 12oz). When it comes to performance, we could share only positive things about the Pro shoe, as it executed its job very well in all tested areas. The only negatives we can think of are that we weren’t huge fans of the writing on the side of the shoe and that the upper materials don’t feel as premium as some other brands, much like the spikeless version.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 8-13
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • BOA Option: No
  • Colors: 2 (White/Blue, White/Green)

Pros

  • Exemplary grip
  • Well sensation of foot support with flexibility
  • A little less underfoot firmness than in previous models

Cons

  • Tank of higher quality than competitors ҉
  • Looks won’t turn heads

10. Nike Victory Tour 4 Golf Shoe: Best firm feel

Rory’s a titleist , but his golf shoes are perfect models for the game.

Nike Victory Tour 4 Golf Shoe

You will definitely know about these shoes because Rory McIlroy wears them weekly on the PGA Tour, and after testing them ourselves, it’s easy to see why.

The word comfort means something different to everyone, and as a distant cousin to heel, I am as far from the ground as possible. If there is a good trainer for walking and running, I want a sole that is so soft. I don’t have the same likes in golf shoes, but I don’t see a ton of these shoes in the wild. Instead, I prefer a somewhat firmer but still comfortable feel, and no shoe provides this better than the Victory Tour 4s.

Nike said it received input from athletes to design a new frame that would improve the shape and fit — most importantly, the Dynamic Fit system for more support and the Cushlon midsole for comfort and stability. Additional padding up at the ankle and an internal strap on the inside of the shoe help to ensure maximum pleasure when it comes to your round, with the shoe molding to the shape of your feet. Meanwhile, spikes on the outsole provide ample grip. This shone through in testing and only added to the list of factors, making this one of the best premium golf shoes on the market.

Specifications

  • Size: 6-14
  • Colors: 3 (Black, White, White/Chrome)

Pros

  • Outstanding total performance
  • The brand’s real focus is comfort
  • Stable and waterproof

Cons

  • Maybe a step back visually

11. Payntr Eighty Seven SC Golf Shoe: Best traction

A gorgeous shoe with the best traction in class

Payntr Eighty Seven SC Golf Shoe

Next is the 87 SC shoe from Payntr, a design you may have noticed on Jason Day’s feet. The name originates from his lucky number, and overall, this is a complete shoe we loved in the run test.

We first enjoyed the elegant designs and understated details, like all three’s golf characteristics and silhouette. This is not a shoddy shoe, but we compared the classy styling to clean silhouettes, like the G/FORE Gallivan2r G/Lock, FootJoy Premiere Series Field, or the Adidas MC80.

The real star of the show, too, was the traction, as the SC could get after it and take on just about any shoe out there. The design features two main elements that have made this possible. First, it is not a new technology, as carbon fiber plates have become much more popular in recent years, with the NRGY running via the propellant plate being one of the first. This is a strip of carbon that ran the entire shoe length, which effectively allowed us to utilize the ground bounce during the swing, and the ground feel through the outsole was superb, both when hitting shots and walking in general. The other feature to mention here is the seven Soft Spikes Tour Flex Pro spikes that provide even more help with traction and grip.

The foot secures quite tightly yet comfortably through the area of the tongue and up to the heel for that classic locked-in feeling.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 7-12
  • Waterproof: 100%
  • BOA option: No
  • Colors: 1 (White/Gold)

Pros

  • Class-leading traction
  • Great cushioning underfoot
  • Sophisticated look

Cons

  • Instead of babbling about EXORCISED DEATH, softening of the upper may require some care.

12. Puma Phantomcat Nitro Golf Shoe: Best low profile

Good spiked golf shoe with a different traction system

Puma Phantomcat Nitro Golf Shoe

ONE OF THE MOST DISTINCTION OUTSOLES WE’VE SEEN IS THE PUMA PHANTOMCAT NITRO. All this is thanks to an entirely new Flexspike integrated cleat with a dash of color. This was the first time we had experienced it on Puma’s golf footwear, and we liked what we saw and felt!

These spikes create more surface area contact with the ground and friction on the foot in better distributing the body’s weight. The grip was fantastic, especially on the wet and muddy days we tested them. Though the jagged edge design on the outsole does mean mud can cram up there, that is something to bear in mind.

Due to the switch to the sole, Puma’s engineers have made the Phantomcat Nitro slimmer and, as the sub-heading implies, lower to the earth. Better still, there’s loads of value to be had out of it, particularly as the brand has added a new nitrogen-infused foam into the mix, which delivers excellent levels of softness and rebound when tracking around the court and hitting a ball. We found the low-profile spiked-out sole effective in our testing and will allow for all-year-round wear.

Specifications

  • Sizes: 7-12
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • BOA Option: No
  • Because: 3 (Black/Green/White, Black/Silver, White/Silver)

Pros

  • Grip from a low-profile spiked outsole
  • Pops of color on the outsole
  • Nice details on the upper
  • Lightweight build

Cons

  • The outsole, despite good grip performance, can clog with mud

How do we test golf shoes?

We test golf shoes by putting models through their paces over multiple rounds in varying conditions. The downside, of course, is that by reducing the number of shoes to two, we lose more than just the inherent separation in the range, which, by the way, is how we get a much deeper sense of how they are doing concerning things like comfort, grip, stability, waterproofness and how they stack up in the aesthetic stakes on the golf course.

How do we test golf shoes?

A Golf Irons Review team member has used every shoe featured here. It’s also important to mention that the whole category is supervised by shoe guru Dan Parker, a writer who’s been testing golf shoes for years and has built quite the closet. Generally, he’ll test most golf shoes thoroughly , but rarely will another member of the gear team, such as Sam De’Ath or Joe Ferguson, test shoes as well, based on their expertise and knowledge in testing. There is also the fact that all three of the main testers partake in the game of golf, and all three have worn the shoes for an extended period.

We feel this is the ultimate way to test a golf shoe, as pounding around on a golf course for a number of weeks gives you a chance to see how they perform when things change up, like the weather, ground conditions, stance, and lies.

This test procedure also helps us get details about the nitty-gritty. Some brands, therefore, run a little smaller or more significant than the next. Models after 36 holes can start to rub too much, but we can also pinpoint designs that work both on and off the golf course and the drive home. We also do particular checks based on the brand claims themselves. If a brand claims the shoe is waterproof, we’ll test it irrespective of the weather. If it is sunny, we dip the shoe in water to see how waterproof it is. We also ensure we test traction and stability claims in alternative lies and ground conditions because a shoe must perform as well on sand, mud, and rough as on the fairway and green.

Finally, at Golf Irons Review, we are thorough in our tests. We routinely attend product launch presentations and sit with the manufacturer’s R&D technicians to get the lowdown on their new technology. Not that manufacturers can buy a good review—all our reviews are by golfers, for golfers.

How to select the best golf shoe

So, to help you focus and guide your buying decision, here we have summarised some key points to consider when buying your next pair of golf shoes.

How to select the best golf shoe

Getting the right fit

Fit is crucial when selecting golf shoes. Otherwise, they can be an instant round killer by allowing blisters to build up, or your feet might slide around inside, limiting your stability.

It is also worth thinking about different laces when it comes to the right fit. Regular laces work for the bulk of you, but some golfers prefer lacing up with a BOA system, which makes putting the shoes on and tightening them a little more convenient. They shouldn’t loosen much during your round but typically come at a slight premium.

When trying on a pair for the first time, listen for the sound of ‘whoosh’ when sliding your feet into the shoes: That’s the sound of all the air leaving the shoe to indicate it is the right size (but do a walking test just to be sure). There should be no pinching anywhere, nor should your feet be sliding around inside.

Waterproofing

We highly recommend waterproof shoes if you live in a place with a lot of rain. The best designs will leave your feet bone-dry, but if you play most of your rounds in glorious sunshine, you might have other concerns higher up on your list.

A number of players opt to have one pair for winter and a second, lighter pair for summer to keep them fresh and accommodate different needs.

Spiked or spikeless

The best golf shoes above are divided between spiked (or cleated) and spikeless designs, and there are benefits to either. Spikeless golf shoes offer plenty of off-course versatility. Spikeless shoes are typically very lightweight and comfortable and ideal for wearing on the drive to the golf course and on the way back, but few will provide as much traction as a spiked shoe. Spiked golf shoes provide more traction and stability but don’t sit as close to the ground as spikeless designs.

Styling

Fortunately, modern golf shoe design has enabled many brands to produce not only traditional/classic-looking shoes but also modern designs for wear off the course. That is why you should consider what your shoes look like and what type is best for you. Whatever your preference or aversion, there is something for everyone these days.

FAQs of Best Golf Shoes 2025

Q. Why wear golf shoes?

Golf shoes are for golf because you need them to cope with everything a golfer has to deal with on the course. This is manifested in the necessity for maximum comfort as they must be worn and walked in throughout the day. They also have to grip, and traction as golfers take their swings, which regular shoes don’t do either. Golf shoes are also generally waterproof, while normal trainers are not.

Q. What are the best golf shoes to play with?

Every shoe on our list will deliver fun, comfort, and performance on the course. Because golf shoes are purpose-built to balance golfers’ movements and the golf course’s terrain, spend the extra cash on at least one good pair of golf shoes.

Q. How do I choose best golf shoes?

There are many bits and pieces to play around with. First, real-time your shoes to find out if you need a spiked shoe that provides additional grip or a spikeless shoe that gives you a more casual and low-profile appearance. Then, decide if it has to be fully waterproof, what color and style you like, and also determine your precise shoe size. These questions will help narrow your search, making it easier to find the perfect shoe to suit your game.

Q. Do Pro golfers use spikeless golf shoes?

Most Tour golfers will wear spikeless shoes. They compete mainly in dry, warm weather on finely cultivated golf courses. But you’ll see plenty of Tour players wearing spiked golf shoes if inclement weather is in the forecast.
